Construction of a new 14-storey wing of Grand Hotel Reykjavík is underway.   The building consists of a basement, 12 full-size floors, a partial floor, and a floor that divides the building into two units.  Included in the plans are a new main entrance, a lobby area connected to an indoor garden, service areas in the basement and on the first floor, guest rooms on the first to 13th storeys, and technical facilities on the top floor.  The building will contain 212 guest rooms.  Ground was broken on 23 September, and construction began immediately thereafter.  Completion is scheduled for March 2007.
