An avalanche barrier built in Bolungarvík

ÍAV started building an avalanche barrier in Bolungarvík in Vestfjord this summer. The project started in July and will last until November when a break will be done due to weather conditions during winter time.  In April 2010 the project is scheduled to start again and is estimated to end in October 2010. The avalanche barrier will be 18-22 meters high and 700 meters long. Ten employees are working on the project, mostly locals.
