24.11.2009 The glass façade of the Concert and Conference Centre is taking on shape
The installation of the crystalline looking lattice of glass and steel façade which will cover Harpa’s first floor started some weeks ago and is now well on its way.
The south side of the building will consist of a so called Quasi Brick (QB) glass wall. The QB units are hexagonal blocks which have the appearance of a columnar rock formation. See photo below. In total there are around 1.000 of these blocks on the south side, of which about 450 are custom built.
Preparations for the QB installations started this autumn with the building of a scaffold for the workers mounting the bricks. The first bricks are being adjusted and fastened but only 100 of these are now in Iceland.
