In June 2008, Iceland Prime Contractor commenced construction of a 3,000 m² annex to the current Sjálandsskóli school building. The annex is located by the seaside, and the hall linking it to the existing building will lie over Vífilsstadalækur creek. The annex will contain, among other things, a swimming pool, an athletic hall, and a cafeteria.

IPC built the first phase of the school building in 2004-2005. The project is scheduled for completion in July 2009.
