Avalanche barriers at Isafjordur

The work involves the installation of retaining structures of steel, (snow bridges), also known as steel structures or frames, in an avalanche prone areas at Brattahlíð mountain Kubba above Holtahverfi in town of Ísafjörður.

Implementation area is 100 - 350 meters above sea level on a steep mountain and cliffs and to simplify the workload service road is constructed upp to 160 meters for transport of personnel and material. The total length of the structures is about 1.992 meters, distributed in 29 lines and drill holes for 1,400 for rock bolts and excavation for 700 foundations that sustain the structures.

Since conditions are difficult due to height of installment and high inclination, helicopters will be used to transport materials, and since snow and weather conditions have extremely effect on working conditions the working period is restricted to summer time i.e. five to six months annually.
