House of Icelandic studies – earthwork

The house foundation for the House of Icelandic Studies is a basic earthwork construction, explosions and fillings. In addition it is drilled for pipes that lie underneath Suðurgötu and along University of Iceland.

Harpa wins European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award 2013

Harpa, the Reykjavik Concert Hall and Conference Centre in Iceland, is the winner of the 2013 European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award, the European Commission and the Fundació Mies van der Rohe announced this today. Designed by Henning Larsen Architects, Batteríið Architects and Studio Olafur Eliasson, the building has helped to transform and revitalise Reykjavik harbour and brought the city and harbour district closer together.

IAV and MARTI offer for Solbakk tunnel accepted

Norwegian Public Roads (Statens vegvesen) has confirmed that IAV and MARTI joint bid in Solbakk tunnel has been accepted. According to Norwegian regulations protest time starts from this date, other bidders have until April 28th to protest the decision of the NPR.

Skarfabakki expansion

Skarfabakki expansion

The expansion of Skarfabakki is still in full motion, but the project started in April last year. Project owner is Faxafloahafnir and the main work at the project is expanding the current harbour at Skarfabakki so that two cruisers can lay at the harbour at the same time, that includes: steel wall run down, landfill, dredging, installing edge timber beams and surface finishes.

House of Icelandic studies – contract signing

Last Monday IAV and Ministry of Education, Science and Culture & University of Iceland a contract for 1st. Phase of the project House of Icelandic studies, the earthwork. The contract amount is approximately 98 million IKR. It was the minister of Education, Science and Culture Mrs. Katrin Jakobsdottir took the first ground for the new building.

Budarhalsvirkjun - pressure pipes

Recently IAV finished to put down pressure pipes for Budarhalsvirkjun. The pipes are two and around 110 meter long and weigh together 550 tons, the diameter of each pipe is 5.8 meters. The construction begun in January 2012 and is it estimated that the welding work will be finished early March. The painting on the inside of the pipes will be finished in June.

Contract signing for Vadlaheidatunnel

Last Friday IAV and Marti signed a contract for the Vadlaheidatunnel. The tunnel will be 7,5 km long with road cabins on both side. It will shorten the Highway1 distance around Iceland for 16km and the approximate traffic through the tunnel per 24 hours will be 1400 cars.

Harpa is a finalist in an architectural competition

Harpa has reached the finals in an architectural competition in Europe. The competition is the Mies van der Rohe award for modern architecture. Harpa is now in a group off five other buildings in Europe who will be competing for the award, 335 proposals were submitted from 37 countries.

HB Grandi freezer storage, Norðurgarði

Construction at HB Grandi freezer storage, Norðurgarði is now in full swing. The construction on the steel frame begun today and the work implementation of the basement walls are scheduled to be finished next week. Most of the steel frame has arrived in Iceland and it is estimated that the gladding work can begin late February this year.

Nursing home in Reykjansebær

The concrete implementation at the Nursing home in Nesvellir, Reykjanesbæ started in mid-October 2012. IAV was the lowest bidder for the concrete construction phase, the exterior and roof finishing. The building itself is about 4000 m2.
