IPC delivers first East Iceland building

Iceland Prime Contractor has received an allocation of lots for 151 apartments in Bakkagerdi Place in the East Iceland town of Reydarfjördur. In collaboration with the Fjardabyggd municipality, IPC has made changes to the previous physical plan of the neighbourhood with the aim of condensing the settlement and offering increased diversity as regards the types of homes available.

Gardabaer athletic complex formally opened

A new, state-of-the-art athletic complex located at Skólabraut in the Reykjavík suburb of Gardabaer was formally opened on 10 October. The three-storey building is 4,200 m2 in size. Among the features of the new sports complex are a double handball field, a swimming pool designed for teaching and supplemented by a hot pot, six dressing rooms, and a running track. IPC employees began construction of the building in June 2003.

University of Akureyri research and innovation centre fully finished

On 1 October, Iceland Prime Contractor delivered a fully finished research and innovation facility to the University of Akureyri. The project was a private endeavour: IPC handled the construction of the building, Landsafl is its owner, and ISS will operate the facility for the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture for the next 25 years. Ground was broken on 10 June 2003 for the 5,500-m2 building, which varies from four to seven storeys tall. The construction team consisted of an average of 40-50 employees, peaking at 80 tradesmen as the project drew to a close.

Apartments in Thrastarhöfdi Cape selling well

IPC is currently constructing an elegant multiple-family residential building located at Thrastarhöfdi Cape 4-6, in the western end of the Reykjavík suburb of Mosfellsbaer. The building was designed by the Arcus architecture firm with an eye to meeting the needs of families. The three-storey apartment complex, an ell-shaped building with two connected wings, contains 22 apartments and two entry halls.

IPC commences construction of primary school in Reykjavík's Stadir neighbourhood

Iceland Prime Contractor has signed a contractual agreement for the construction of a primary school in Reykjavík’s Stadir neighbourhood. The project involves ground work, concrete work, and interior and exterior finishing of the one-storey school building, which will be 3,000 m2 in size. The building will be clad primarily with corrugated metal supplemented by visual concrete.

Iceland Prime Contractor celebrates 50th anniversary

On Thursday 24 June 2004, Iceland Prime Contractor celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of company operations. The company was originally founded at the behest of the Icelandic government. Its initial role was to fulfill Iceland’s contractual obligations to the United States concerning construction related to the US military presence at the Naval Air Station in Keflavík.

IPC builds retail and office facilities in Fjardabyggd

Representatives of Iceland Prime Contractor and Smáragardur signed a contractual agreement stating that IPC will build Molinn, the 2,500-m2 retail and office building that is to rise in the East Iceland community of Fjardabyggd. The signing took place at the trade show East Iceland 2004. Ground will be broken on 21 June 2004, and the building is to be inaugurated in December 2004. Jón Traustason will serve as construction manager.

IPC exhibits at mega trade show East Iceland 2004

On Thursday 10 June at 17:00, Iceland Prime Contractor opened a booth at the giant trade show entitled East Iceland 2004. Some 128 individuals, companies, and institutions are slated to present their operations in nearly 100 exhibition booths. The floor area of the trade show facility totals roughly 2000 m2, with approximately 8,000 guests expected to attend this weekend.

IPC to build a new primary school in Garðabær

The new primary school authorities in Garðabær, Sjálands School, has signed an agreement with IPC to construct the first phase of the school namely ca 4,000 square meters of foundation. The building will be two storeys and is scheduled to be turned over on July 1st 2005.
