Project Grandi is progressing well

Fourth of December is the day of celebration for Saint Barbara who is the protection saint of tunnel workers and the geologists. Generally there is great big celebration for tunnel workers around the world that day and that was of course also the case at IAV tunnel projects, both in Iceland and Norway. IAV is currently working at the tunnel project in Vaðlaheiði on the northern cost of Iceland , in Solbak by Stavanger and Holsmestrand, both in Norway.
This fall IAV was approached by The Federation of Icelandic Industries because of the project the enhancement of fact and technology in primary schools in the country. The projects name is GEERT and stands for elementary education increased in science and technology.
An agreement has been reached for the avalanche protection sections, which consists of snow - and mudflow protection, above Ísafjörður.
Following a tender stage, IAV has signed a contract for the construction of the building and backup power station in Bolungarvík for Landsnet. The project includes construction of 1,000 m² concrete house, switchgear equipment, transformers and diesel generators.
Construction for the installation of avalanche barriers in Siglufjörður is now in full process. The main construction has been transferring anchors and grouting cement up the mountain by helicopter, total of 35 tons in 80 trips, which will fulfil the material need through this year.
The concrete work of the nursing home in Nesvelli Reykjanesbær is now completed. The finishing of the cladding of the building is currently underway with completion of the roof and windows. The building has three floors plus basement or 4,339 m2 in size.
IAV is currently working on interior finishing in Dalshrauni 3. The building consists of five-store office buildings and buried parking garage of one floor. The house is a total of 5942 m2 and the underground car park of 3.097m2. The house is owned by a real estate company Reitur, but Valitor will lease the most of the building.
Several employees of IAV and Marti, along with employees who have been engaged to Marti IAV Solbak DA, have been in Norway for a while to work on the camp site and facilities. The site is in the town Tau beside the project site. The first employees from Tuco, who will be working on the tunnel digging, will arrive on July 29.
Vaðlaheiði tunnel will connect Eyjafjörð and Fnjóskadal. The tunnel itself will be almost 7.2 km, but with the length of the bypass portals the tunnel will be 7.5 km. The total length of connection roads on both sides of the tunnel will be 4.1 km. It is estimated that out of Vaðlaheiði tunnel will be driven 30- 40.000 truckloads of material and about 1000 tons of explosives.
