Construction begins on ÍAK Sports Academy in Reykjanesbaer
The new ÍAK Sports Academy building will be 2,700 m2 in size. Part of it will be on two floors, and the estimated construction cost is ISK 450 million. The ground floor will contain, among other things, a lecture hall, classrooms, and a large gymnasium. The second storey will house classrooms and research facilities, as well as a library and a faculty lounge/workroom.
A tender was opened for this project last October, and IPC submitted the lowest bid, which was nonetheless above the projected construction cost for the project. Since the bids were opened, designers, inspectors, and the prime contractor have been working together to find ways to reduce the construction cost to a level below the target specified by Fasteign hf., the holding company that will be the owner of the ÍAK building.
The architects are Páll Tómasson and Haraldur Örn Jónsson from the firm Arkitektur.is. Project manager will be Björgúlfur Pétursson, and construction management will be handled by Kristján Sigurdsson.
