Construction of Hrólfsskalámelur apartments underway
Construction of apartments on the Hrólfsskálamelur plot in the Reykjavík suburb of Seltjarnarnes began at the end of April. The first building of the three in the complex is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2008. The three buildings will contain a total of 80 apartments, 26 of which will be in the first building. Construction is expected to take two to three years.
The construction area is bordered by Sudurströnd Road to the south and Nesvegur Road to the east. The northern boundary lies adjacent to the schoolyard of Mýrarhúsaskóli primary school and the apartments for the elderly on Skólabraut Street, while the western boundary of the construction site lies at the eastern end of the Seltjarnarnes athletic complex lot.
The three buildings will be three to four storeys high, plus a basement. The first building to be completed will be on the northwestern portion of the site. The second will lie south of it, and the third will lie next to Nesvegur Road.
In the first phase of construction, the current buildings for the fitness centre Raektin and the automotive tire workshop Nesdekk will be torn down, whereupon groundwork will begin. Concrete casting is expected to begin in May or June, and the apartments in the first building are scheduled for delivery in the fall of 2008.
