Construction of University Square complex well underway
The casting of University Square is complete, and construction of the steel frame is underway. The groundwork crew is busy levelling the lot, which will be ready for finishing in late July or early August.
Iceland Prime Contractor began construction of the University of Iceland’s University Square complex in April 2006. University Square is the collective name for two buildings that, together with the accompanying connecting structure, were originally to be roughly 8,500 square metres in size. During the course of the work, however, it was decided to enlarge the buildings, which will be approximately 10,000 m2 when completed.
According to project manager Hjalti Gylfason and assistant project manager Árni Magnússon, construction is going well: the project is on schedule, and it is expected that the phase called University Square 1 will be complete in August 2007, while the third floor of University Square 2 will be completed in October 2007.
The first phase of the project is scheduled for completion in November 2007, and the second in February 2008.
