Dedication of the latter phase of Lagarfoss Power Station
On Saturday 6 October 2007, the latter phase of Lagarfoss Power Station was formally brought into operation. The dedication ceremony began at 15:00 when Iceland State Electricity (RARIK) Chairman of the Board Hilmar Gunnarsson laid the cornerstone of the power plant.
Construction of the expansion of RARIK’s Lagarfoss Power Station began in mid-April 2005. The project involved the expansion of the control station to the north, a new intake to the north of the previous control station, and a pressurized water shaft between the new intake and the control station building. It also entailed the enlargement of the headrace channel, together with the accompanying construction of flood protection structures and dams.
The 8 MW first phase of the Lagarfoss Power Station was brought on line in 1975. The completion of the second phase brings the total production capacity of the plant to 28 MW.
