Grundartangi extension
The official first spade in the earthwork for the extension of the Norðurál aluminium plant has been carried out. The aluminium plant at Grundartanga is being extended to cope with 180 thousand ton production instead of the present 90 ton.
A contract is being drawn up with IPC for the earthwork, based on bidding procedures . It is scheduled that the work will begin immediately after next weekend. The building itself will be open to bidding in June.
The Project Manager is Agnar Strandberg and the Job Superintendant is Ágúst Ólafsson. 15 to 20 IPC employees will be working on this project. It is scheduled that the earthwork will be completed in Autumn, 2004.
