House of Icelandic studies – project conclusion
The ground project for the base of the House of Icelandic Studies completed in June.
The project was mostly traditional ground work. There were evacuated over 30 thousand m3 of material from the base. 380 meters of piping for ground water was laid from the base to the pond beside the Nordic House, off which about 140 meters were drilled under Suðurgötu and in front of the main building of University of Iceland.
The piping is intended to remove possible ground water at the house as well as to function as backup if water enters the house.
