Huge warehouse taken into use
IPC, together with sub-contractors, has just completed the design and construction of the new very impressive warehouse for the Iceland Steamship Company (Eimskip) at Sundahöfn, Reykjavík.
In March, 2002, IPC and Eimskip entered into an agreement covering the design and erection of the building.
The warehouse is a steel frame building with a floor area of ca. 17,500 m2. The middle floor of the building is ca. 5,200 m2. The building is ca. 300,000 m3, making it the largest in Reykjavík. The ceiling height in the main area is 15 meters and the shelving system reaches up to that height. The complete design which was included in the contract, commenced in March. Earthwork commenced at the beginning of April and concrete work in the beginning of May. Erection of the steel framework began at the end of July and the building was ready for installation of facilities at the end of October. The building has now been handed over to Eimskip.
