The square at Harpa awarded
The square at Harpa, Concert and conference hall, has been awarded the Nordic architectural reward in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The award was in the category “Best Nordic public space”. The square is deviated into three open areas, arriving square, multiuse square and open area in the south west corner. The designing of the square is invoking to the history of the area that the Harp is built on from being the untouched beach where the creek ran to the sea and to the port that it is.
The ponds make special islets feeling in the square and divides the Harp from nearby traffic. The bridges beside the ponds are in the memory of the bridges that ran into the sea and the social occasions that were conducted when ships arrived into Ingolfsgardur.
