Press conference in Harpa

A press conference was held in Harpa last Tuesday and present where Olafur Eliasson the designer of the glass facade, Osbjorn Jacobsen and Peer Jeppesen the main architects of the building as well as the Chairman of the Board for Portus, Mr. Petur J. Eiriksson. They explained the general ideas behind Harpa and its reference to Icelandic nature. They expressed their contentment how the ideas had evolved to the construction that is now taking form.

ÍAV wins a contract with the Icelandic Road Administration

The Icelandic Road Administration and the town of Mosfellsbaer jointly signed a 2 million US dollars (257 MISK) contract with ÍAV for a road building project in Mosfellsbaer. This is for a dual carriage road between Hafravatns road and Thingvellir road with crash barrier guardrails between opposing traffic lanes.

Harpa will be delivered in the spring of 2011

An agreement has been made between ÍAV on one hand and the East Harbour and Portus on the other hand that the delivery date for Harpa will be April 7th 2010. By then it will be possible to move into the building to prepare for the formal opening ceremony that will be announced in late June this year.

ÍAV signed a contract with ALCAN in Staumsvik

Alcan Iceland hf., owned by Rio Tinto Alcan has signed a contract with ÍAV for a specific construction project for the first phase of a voltage increase for their aluminum smelter in Straumsvik. This is the first contract for this phase. The voltage increase project is divided into two phases. The first one has started and its aim is to increase the smelter’s operational security and prepare for a voltage increase which is the main task for the second phase.

Tunneling – personal data collection

In the near future, ÍAV in cooperation with Marti Contractor Ltd., are planning to increase their participation in tunnel projects, both here in Iceland as well as internationally. We are hoping to be able to utilize the vast knowledge and experience accumulated over the past years here in Iceland. To achieve this we want to get in contact with persons that might be interested in working with ÍAV in this field in the future.

A group from China visits Harpa

This morning a group of 15 people from Wuhan, China, visited Harpa, the Concert and Conference Centre. The group is lead by the Deputy Mayor of Wuhan city as the glass façade of the building is produced by the Wuhan based company Lingyun.

Jón Gnarr visited ÍAV employees

It was none other than the “candidate” Jón Gnarr that visited our work site at the Concert and Conference Centre, Harpa a short time ago. He is running for the Mayor of Reykjavik and was introducing his party, the “Best Party”.

The underground car park at Harpa

An underground car park is being constructed at the Concert and Conference Centre Harpa. This is a fairly large construction on two levels and will be able to house 545 cars. The main construction quantities are: 23.000 m3 of concrete, 2.350 tons of construction steel and 18.600 m2 of bubble deck plates.
